Comparison

Motiv vs Metrion. Ecom tracking vs conversion intelligence.

Metrion gets your store talking to your ad channels fast, and for a simple setup that is genuinely enough. Note: Metrion was acquired by Channable in June 2026. But it only sees the checkout, and it can't tell you which channel actually earned the sale. Motiv is for the moment you've outgrown a tracking connection: every conversion type captured, consent-enforced, and turned into one ROAS you can actually trust.

What Metrion does well

Metrion is a plug-and-play server-side tracking tool for ecommerce, built to get your store talking to your ad channels fast.

Plans start at €100/month, with a free tier available for testing up to 100 conversions.

Native ecom platform integrations

Metrion connects directly to platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, Lightspeed, and Shopware, syncing conversion data to ad channels without requiring GTM knowledge or custom configuration.

Fast, server-side setup

For a webshop owner who wants server-side conversion tracking up and running quickly, without technical complexity, Metrion delivers on that promise. Metrion combines server-side and client-side tracking to capture conversion data.

Low barrier to entry

Plans start at €100/month, with a free tier available for testing up to 100 conversions, so you can validate the connection before committing.

Where they fundamentally differ

One moves your data. The other tells you what it's worth.

Metrion

Metrion solves the connectivity problem

Getting your ecom conversion data from your store to your ad platforms reliably, without data loss from ad blockers or browser restrictions.

Motiv

Motiv solves the intelligence problem

Understanding what your conversions are worth, which ones you're legally permitted to act on, and feeding that insight back to your ad platforms as a single source of truth.

Side by side

Feature by feature

Both move your conversion data. Only one tells you what it's worth.

Metrion's unlimited conversions on paid plans sounds compelling. But unlimited data without the intelligence to act on it has a ceiling. Last reviewed June 2026, based on publicly available information. See getmetrion.com for current pricing.

Conversion coverage

Ecom is not just checkouts

It is easy to think of ecommerce as a checkout problem: a visitor arrives, browses, buys. But most webshops generate a significant portion of revenue through touchpoints that happen before or after that checkout event. A visitor who signs up for your newsletter, receives a welcome discount, and purchases three weeks later is a conversion that started as a lead. A buyer who first enquires through a contact form before placing a wholesale order is a closed deal, not a checkout.

Metrion's native ecom integrations pull order data directly from your store backend, which means checkout conversions are captured regardless of browser behaviour. But any conversion that happens outside the checkout, a form submission, a newsletter signup that leads to a purchase weeks later, a wholesale enquiry, is invisible to Metrion. It is not that these events are blocked by ad blockers; it is that Metrion has no integration to capture them at all.

Motiv captures every conversion type from its source system. Shopify orders from Shopify's backend. Leads and deal closures from your CRM. Form submissions from the backend. The result is 100% of what happened across every conversion type, not just 100% of what happened at checkout.

GDPR compliance

Data routing is the easy part. Enforcement is the hard part.

Metrion describes itself as GDPR-compliant, and server-side tracking does reduce some privacy risk compared to client-side setups. But GDPR compliance in tracking is not just about where data is processed. It is about whether you can demonstrate, per conversion, that prior consent existed before that event was dispatched to an ad platform.

Metrion does not publish details about how consent is handled at the dispatch level. There is no mention of consent classification, dispatch blocking on restricted events, or any mechanism that enforces compliance beyond basic data routing.

Motiv classifies every inbound event as Observed (prior consent confirmed) or Restricted (consent absent or withdrawn) before any dispatch decision is made. Restricted events are never dispatched, enforced at the infrastructure level and not dependent on plugin configuration. The Attribution Gap shows you precisely what that consent loss costs in revenue, in euros, on your dashboard.

Your ad platform data

One source of truth vs scattered platform attribution

Metrion passes conversion data from your store to your ad platforms. What those platforms do with that data, how they attribute it, and how they report ROAS is determined by each platform independently. There is no cross-platform view, no unified attribution engine, and no way to compare performance across all connected ad platforms on equal terms.

Motiv routes every conversion through a single attribution engine before dispatch. The ROAS you see in Motiv is calculated the same way across every channel, based on actual revenue and not on each platform's own attribution model. When Google says one thing and Meta says another, Motiv tells you what actually happened.

Choosing between them

Use Metrion if…

  • You run a single-channel or simple two-channel paid setup and your only goal is sending more complete purchase events to Google or Meta.
  • You are not yet at a stage where you need to know which channel actually drove each sale, more accurate signals reaching your platforms is sufficient for now.
  • You want the lowest-cost option to connect your store to your ad platforms without any attribution or reporting layer on top.
  • Improving your Conversion API data quality is your complete goal, and understanding what it means can wait.
  • Note: Metrion was acquired by Channable in June 2026. Product roadmap and positioning may evolve.
Metrion

Use Motiv if…

  • You're seeing different ROAS numbers from Google and Meta for the same period and don't know which to trust.
  • Your Shopify revenue and what your ad platforms report don't match, and you can't pinpoint where the gap is.
  • You're spending on email flows and retargeting but have no way to see their contribution alongside your paid channels.
  • You want to understand what each euro of ad spend is actually earning, not just that it reached the right platform.
  • You've grown to a point where a simple tracking connection is no longer enough to make confident budget decisions.
Motiv

What Motiv is not

Motiv is not the simplest or cheapest way to connect your Shopify store to Google Ads. If that is all you need, Metrion does it well. Motiv is built for businesses that want to understand their conversions, not just collect them.

What you get with Motiv

Three things Metrion can't give you

Conversion intelligence, not just an ecom tracking connection.

Every conversion captured

From every source system, not from what a browser managed to report.

True ROAS per channel

Calculated by an independent engine with no commercial interest in the outcome.

GDPR-compliant by architecture

Consent enforced at the pipeline level, not through configuration that someone could accidentally misconfigure.
